Video games are a unique form of entertainment. They have the power to spark creativity, awaken fantasy, and conjure dreams. They unite diverse communities of people from all around the world, establish comradery, and build everlasting friendships. For me, video games are both an escape and a wonderland. I started playing before I can even remember, and some of my earliest memories are of me watching my two older brothers play the Super Nintendo on the spare TV in my parents bedroom. My first console was the Nintendo 64, and I vividly remember opening it on Christmas morning along with Banjo-Kazooie and Mario Kart 64.
Throughout my life, video games have not only helped me overcome anxiety and depression, but have acted as a channel for me to build some of my closest friendships. Growing up I had the PS2 and my best friend had the GameCube, so we would spend summers binge-gaming at each other’s houses for days on end until our parents became concerned. Looking back at it now, these are some of my most cherished memories.
Flash forward to college, my roommates and I would spend way too much time gaming (to the point where we would miss class a little too often). During this time, I was hired as a game advisor at GameStop, which provided me with a platform in which I could fanboy over games and get paid for it. After working my way up to an assistant manager, I received great opportunities elsewhere and decided to leave. However, my passion for games has never faded. In fact, my love for them has only expanded with my maturity.
What I miss most about my days at GameStop is talking about and recommending games on a daily basis. The most satisfying feeling for me was when I was able to recommend a game to someone who would later come back in to rave how much they loved it. That right there is what inspired me to start this blog. I want to recommend games to you as if you were a customer in my store, and if my articles can reach and inspire just one person to play something new, then all of this was a success.
Today, I live in Central Tennessee with my fiancée Devon and our cat Minnie. I have recently returned to school to finish my degree, and we are getting married at the end of April. I have hopes to one day work in the video game industry, but I like to take things one day at a time and follow my passions. In my spare time when I’m not playing video games, I like to hike, go to the gym, and brew my own beer.
I am excited for the future of this blog, and I look forward to hearing your feedback. The bulk of my posts here will consist of 5 game recommendations per week based on a specific theme. If you enjoy my content, please don’t keep me a secret, and share me with your friends and family. New articles will be posted every Monday at 11am EST, along with the occasional review here and there. Thanks for reading!
